Dr. Patricia Sherman
Dr. Patricia Sherman is assistant professor of social work and Director
of the Bachelor of Social Work program at Kean University in Union, NJ.
Dr. Patricia Sherman received her master’s and doctorate degrees
in social work from Rutgers University.
She had a private practice for twenty years specializing in treating issues
of sexual trauma, grief, chronic and terminal illness and adoption. Currently
she has a consulting and training practice called Healing Is Possible,
LLC.
Dr. Patricia Sherman is a sought-after speaker on topics ranging from
bereavement, child sexual abuse, cultural proficiency and how to care
for yourself while caring for others. Dr. Patricia Sherman has spoken
at numerous conferences. She provides consultation to therapists and first
responders who work with those who have suffered personal trauma.
Dr. Patricia Sherman is the author of From Tragedy to Triumph: How
to Heal From Trauma and Start Living Happy Life.
As a survivor of severe childhood physical, sexual, and emotional abuses,
Dr Patricia Sherman reaches out and helps other survivors overcome abuse
and experience healing.
Dr. Patricia Sherman knows her own healing was possible because of the
belief held by her own therapist that, one day, Patricia could heal. Patricia
Sherman borrowed this hope for a long time before she had any of her own.
Today, Dr. Patricia Sherman knows a critical part of the healing process
is therapists' believing trauma survivors have capacities for recovery
and healing.
Dr. Patricia Sherman lives with her spouse, two children and an assortment
of animals in New Jersey.
